Lally Professor Gina Colarelli O’Connor gave the keynote address at the 5th Annual Connecticut Technology Council’s Women of Innovation Awards ceremony January 29.  Ten innovative, outstanding women from across Connecticut were honored as innovators, role models and leaders in technology, science and engineering.

Dr. O’Connor spoke about her work over the last decade studying the innovation process at major companies such as Intel, IBM and DuPont.  She concludes that innovation happens regularly in organizations where it is supported as a business function and discipline on its own.  She celebrated the accomplishments of current women innovators and urged the women at the conference to continue to develop the technology, leadership, and business management skills needed to build the innovation function.

Dr. O’ Connor’s recent book Grabbing Lightning:  Building a Capability for Breakthrough Innovation  was named one of the best business books of 2008 by Booz Allen’s Strategy+Business magazine.
